Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Bobby began playing the trumpet at ten years old. By the time he was thirteen he was playing at local dances with a number of bands and by fifteen had put together his own group to play at dances, occasional concerts and in jazz coffee houses.
These special Yamaha mouthpieces bearing Bobby's name are a celebration of his talent, passion and dedication. The 'Lead' model gives that extra sizzle and high note clarity for playing lead parts. The 'Jazz' model has a fairly deep roomy cup for a warm, big sound, and a throat and backbore designed to give enough “jump and snap” for manoeuvring through quick jazz passages with a rich full sound.
The Bobby Shew Lead is a shallow mouthpiece suitable for lead trumpet work, offering a large powerful sound with support in the upper register. The Jazz variant is a medium depth mouthpiece with a narrow backbore which allows a well-rounded sound across the trumpet range.
