The man behind the name
John Packer
John Packer started his woodwind and brass business 50 years ago. From humble beginnings with a small woodwind repair shop in Taunton, Somerset, his reputation quickly grew. John was well known for his expertise and great customer service in the UK and across the world. Both a musician and trained oboe maker and repairer, John has since consulted on the design of instruments for a number of major manufacturers including Yamaha, Boosey & Hawkes and Schreiber. John has used his experience to create a multitude of features on the JP range of instruments which are now popular across the globe.

The John Packer Shop
We are the single largest stockists of brass and woodwind instruments in the UK carrying several thousand brass and woodwind instruments in our 10,000 sq ft facility. Our showroom is a purpose built space between Taunton and Wellington carrying products from brands such as Yamaha, Buffet, Besson Yanigasawa etc.There is a large display area and a selection of insulated practice rooms for customers, including a Yamaha studio which features a top of the range Yamaha piano so you can try your next instrument with accompaniment as well as a Denis Wick Mouthpiece studio and Yanagisawa studio.
Just off Junction 26 of the M5 motorway means no traffic to contend with. Parking is free and ample right on-site. We are fully accessible to the disabled and have a warm and comfy reception area. Customers of all musical experience are always made welcome by our staff and will find a supportive atmosphere to try instruments. Clients are free to browse with no appointment, however, it is often advisable to let us know of your visit if you require more guidance.
