After 10 years’ experience with the instrument manufacturer Holton, TJ Getzen set up his own business in 1939, initially in a converted dairy barn behind the Getzen family home, offering instrument repair. Seven years later, the Getzen Company produced its first trombones which were well received, giving Getzen the confidence to expand and begin production of trumpets and cornets. Not long later they introduced bugles to their range.
After a factory fire in 1963 the company had to be rebuilt and remarkably was completed in just five months.
After various changes in management, the company is now a firm favourite in the US.
