A Brief History of Nick Winfield Reeds
Nick was destined to be involved in the world of oboe; his father Michael was in the Halle Orchestra, and Nick grew up to the sound of an oboe. He began learning the oboe and reed making aged 11, making pocket money gouging and shaping cane for his father.
After some years as a freelance oboe and cor anglais musician, while simultaneously operating a reed making business, Nick made the decision in 1997 to follow his heart and commit making reeds full-time.
Nick now sells his reeds world-wide to all manner of musicians. In recent years he’s even begun exploring new staples to bring further advancement to the reed-making craft.
