A Brief History of Trevor James
Trevor James instruments is a multi award-winning specialist flute and saxophone brand which distributes to over 50 countries around the world.
Established in 1983 by a flute repairer called Trevor James, the English woodwind company based in Lenham specialises in the design and manufacture of flutes (est. 1983) and saxophones (est. 1992).
The research and development team is currently led by technical director David Farley. They are responsible for all the TJ instrument designs, changes and instrument upgrades with their flute and saxophone factory in Taiwan where the company has been based since 1983.
Trevor James use tubing on their flutes and saxophones from Japan, pads from Italy, springs from France and screws from the USA. Taiwan is the base for TJ instrument construction and the UK is the home of their design, final stringing and checks before being despatched to our TJ distributors around the world.
In 1995, Trevor James purchased the much loved and respected ‘Flute Makers Guild of London’ Company (plus tooling) and the flute team continues to work with English flute makers such as Andrew Oxley in their flute and piccolo headjoint designs and cutting.
Through dedication to quality of manufacture and performance, Trevor James has developed into a globally respected student through to professional instrument brand name with an enviable list of performing flute and saxophone artists including Grammy and Emmy wining musicians.
