Ewen McDougall (1934–1999) was a highly respected British flute maker and craftsman, recognized for his exquisite handmade flute and piccolo headjoints. His career began in 1950 when he trained with Rudall Carte, one of the UK's most historic woodwind manufacturers.
In 1961, McDougall joined the Flutemakers Guild in London, a prestigious cooperative of master craftsmen dedicated to preserving traditional, high-end British flute-making techniques. He later established his own independent workshop, earning a stellar reputation among professional and amateur players alike.
McDougall specialized in carving custom headjoints from sterling silver and premium woods, celebrated for their rich, warm tonal qualities and precise response. Following his passing in 1999, his headjoints have become highly sought-after items on the pre-owned vintage market.
Wear & Tear Observations: This headjoint is in a good condition with no major dents or repairs, just a couple tiny dinks. There are also some insertion marks, none of these things affect the playability of the headjoint, they are purely cosmetic. The headjoint cork is in a good position.
