The conception of Vandoren Optimum series was the fruit of lots of research on both the external shape (in particular the beak) and sound, in order to meet the demands of today’s players. It plays with a wonderfully round sound that is well suited to classical music. An excellent first ebonite mouthpiece.

Characteristics: The ultimate classical mouthpiece

AL4 Model:

Tip opening: 163+ (1/100ths mm)
Facing: Medium Short
Characteristics: Very similar to the classical standard of the AL3 model (SM711) but more open

AL5 Model:

Tip opening: 168 (1/100ths mm)
Facing: Medium - Long
Characteristics: This mouthpiece has all of the same sound qualities of the AL3 with a slightly larger tip opening. It offers a perfect balance with number 3 reeds
