The design of the Besson BE981 EE^b tuba is one of the most famous designs in history of tuba development. Made famous by the legendary John Fletcher who advised on its design, it has for a couple of generations been regarded as possessing the ultimate rich tone in bands and also professional symphony orchestras.

Constructed with a larger bore mouthpipe, the tuba produces a wider symphonic tone. Considered a "concert" model, the BE981 tuba is designed for playing in the seated position. A lower position mouthpipe offers comfort to the symphonic player whether they be playing in a concert band or symphony orchestra

This instrument is supplied with a shaped ABS case with wheels and two handles, an Alliance mouthpiece, a micro-fibre cloth and valve oil.
